If you've ever fallen asleep on the bus and woken up two stops past yours, this article is for you. Or maybe you got distracted by your phone, or lost track of time with headphones on. It happens to everyone. And until now the only solution was staying alert for the entire ride.
With GPS Alert that changes. It's a free Android app that tracks your position in the background and sounds an alarm exactly when you arrive at your destination — even if the screen is off and you're asleep.
🚌 Who Is GPS Alert For?
- Commuters on buses, trains and subways who want to rest during the ride
- Night shift workers heading home exhausted
- Students who fall asleep on the way home
- Anyone arriving at unfamiliar stations
- People with reduced mobility who need advance warning to prepare
📍 Step 1 — Download GPS Alert for Free
GPS Alert is free on Google Play. No account or sign-up required.

🗺️ Step 2 — Mark Your Destination
When you open GPS Alert you see a map. You have two ways to set where you're going:
- Tap on the map — zoom in and tap the exact point where you want the alarm to go off
- Type an address — type the address and the app locates it automatically
You can also save favorite destinations for quick access next time — your home, work, school.
📏 Step 3 — Set How Many Meters Before Arrival
This is the key feature. You can set the alarm to go off when you're 300 meters from your stop, or 500, or 1000. It depends on how much time you need to wake up, gather your things and get to the door.
For fast buses or if you need more time to prepare, choose 500 meters or more. For subways or familiar routes, 200-300 meters is enough.
▶️ Step 4 — Hit Start and Put Your Phone Away
Tap the start button and GPS Alert begins tracking your position in the background. You can:
- Close the app — it keeps running
- Turn off the screen — it keeps running
- Listen to music — it keeps running
- Fall asleep — it keeps running
The app's adaptive GPS uses little battery when you're far from your destination and becomes more precise as you get closer.
🔔 Step 5 — The Alarm Fires When You Arrive
When you're within the configured distance of your destination, GPS Alert:
- Wakes the screen even if it was off
- Sounds the alarm even if the phone is on silent
- Shows a full-screen alert: "You Arrived!!!!!!!!!!!"
- Sends a notification in the status bar
You have enough time to wake up, gather your things and reach the door before your stop.
⭐ Tips to Get the Most Out of GPS Alert
- Use favorite destinations — save home and work so you don't have to search every time
- Set more meters during peak hours — when traffic is slow you need more margin
- Enable the notification bar — see your distance in real time without opening the app
- Charge before long trips — GPS uses more battery on longer journeys
